Oprah talks about her episode where Charla Nash’s face was revealed.

OPRAH-CHARLA-NASH-large
Oprah Winfrey,  in a recent radio interview at the  BFF Gayle King’s Sirius Radio show, told listeners why on her last episode she revealed the face of  Charla Nash after her being attacked by chimps.

Oprah on the radio said,
“There was great concern as to how to show the face, whether to show the face, and how to do it,” And I finally thought that she has to live with it. First of all, she wanted to show it, and she has to live with it, so how dare us think…because we even considered, ‘Should we blot out the face? Should you blur the face?’ And then i said no, we’re not gonna do that, because it’s more important for us to not have to look at her than for her to be willing to show it? That’s not right.”

London Riots And Tottenham Shooting

One of the things about making money online full time is that even though I am online virtually all the time, I am a bit disconnected from the rest of the world. So I did not know anything about the tragic shooting and the subsequent unrest leading to full scale London riots, until yesterday.

It was just strange as I took my son out just to our local high street, to be confronted by looters going full at it at Argos. It was surreal and people running all over the place, grabbing whatever they can. It almost felt like I went to sleep and woke up in a zombi flick!

I was then confronted by 2 people in hoodies with scarfs to cover face, who apparently were interested in my watch (wtf??), they thankfully got distracted and I had a job on taking my 2.5 year old (without his stroller) to safety. When these two guys (could not see their faces) realized I was not there, they started to look for me! I was hiding behind a dumpster at the back of KFC! Just across the road.

Oh man, and explaining to my son that he could not walk and I had to carry him and run was an issue, house was too far so ended up going to a mates house, knocked on his door and welcomed myself in. With no police in sight, it was a few hours wait before thing calmed down enough for me and my son to get back home. Thankfully not hurt and in tact.

While I really really do sympathize with the shooting of this man, loss of a life is soo sad. To add to that circumstances  surrounding his death is also unclear, as apparently did not fire the shot? This kind of violence seems to be going a bridge too far. I saw an old lady getting mugged. I felt sick as I could not do anything about it, I had my little boy with me and there were 5 guys/boys surrounding this poor lady. I wonder how the looter would feel if it was their mother or grandmother?

What I really fail to comprehend is that surely parents of these kids know that they are going out, why not stop them? What are you getting from destroying shops apart from the freebies? Personally being put in a situation where I had to worry about safety of my son was really an eye opener. Why are police not arresting these individuals?

These are all question running through my mind, as we in the UK are simply not able to comprehend any mass acts of violence. London Riots really have shown how badly our kids need discipline and people who understand THEM. Right now it just seems that people are getting their Christmas shopping done early!

Independent record labels fear ruinous stock loss in London riots fire

Sony warehouse fire
Numerous independent record labels fear they have lost a catastrophic amount of stock in a fire at a distribution warehouse in north London during the riots in the capital on Monday night. A three-storey, 20,000 square-metre building in Enfield, owned by Sony DADC and holding stock to be distributed by the Pias Group, was burned to the ground.

The fire will potentially impact labels such as Domino, as well as film production companies with DVD stock. Pias is the UK's largest independent sales, marketing and distribution company.

Other labels that may be affected include 4AD, Warp and Beggars Banquet. Beggars Group chairman Martin Mills confirmed his group had stock at the site, but told Music Week that he and other larger labels would be less affected by the disaster than smaller counterparts because they carried stock in other locations. Nevertheless, Mills called the latest setback for the indie sector "horrible, horrible" and added that many labels would also now face manufacturing issues to replenish destroyed stock.

A statement on the Pias website read: "There was a fire last night at the SonyDADC warehouse which services the physical distribution for Pias in the UK and Ireland. Pias is working closely with SonyDADC who are implementing their emergency plans. Pias's UK offices in London and all other areas of our business are unaffected. More information will be communicated shortly to all our labels and partners."

Industry analyst Paul Scaife said: "Physical retail is still absolutely crucial to many in the independent sector and if – as seems quite likely – several smaller labels aren't covered by insurers, this could be the difference between survival and going out of business."

Label boss, festival promoter and DJ Rob Da Bank told the Guardian that all the stock for his company Sunday Best had burned in the blaze: "I'm furious that people are doing this, and I'm devastated for Pias and all the labels that have lost stock. But at the moment I'm more concerned with stopping this stupid behaviour from happening – at the end of the day it's just physical product that's gone, not lives or houses, so I'm trying not to get too hung up on it."
london-riots-fire
Rob Da Bank said details of what exactly happened were still "scant" but Sony had called to confirm all their stock had gone. "We know Pias is insured so hopefully in terms of getting restocked we can all do that, although I can't say for definite right now if that will happen. It won't ruin us as a business, but it will be a problem for labels who need stock to sell to keep them going. For us we have a Kitty, Daisy and Lewis tour where a major source of our revenue is selling CDs and merchandise at the gigs. You look at the roll call of labels on Pias and they're some of the most important indie labels in the world. I just wish these people realised it was music they were destroying, and it's not helping anyone."

A spokesperson for Domino Records said the label had lost "a large quantity" of its CD and vinyl stock in the fire. "While relieved that no one was injured in the incident, we're upset about the loss and destruction of our stock, and thinking of our friends at other independent labels who were also affected by the fire. We are currently working hard with Sony DADC to maintain our release schedule and keep business going as usual."

The physical release of Arctic Monkeys' new single, The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala, is one of the first records to be affected, with limited quantities of the 7in version now only available on its planned release date (15 August) via arcticmonkeys.com. The label confirmed all stock going to retail outlets had been destroyed in the fire.

The release of Charlie Simpson's debut solo album, Young Pilgrim, was also severely delayed by the blaze, which destroyed all 30,000 units. Matthew Page, head of Simpson's label, said: "The album was due to be released this coming Monday. That, of course, will not happen now. It's a time issue. Our release campaign has been building for a long time, and it's like bringing the kettle to the boil, so that everything can come together at the same time. The fire has put the entire release in total jeopardy, and we feel very sorry for Charlie, who's been working on this album for a year. We're not clear what the way forward is now."

Simpson himself added: ""I'm very upset and frustrated to hear that the Sony distribution warehouse was burnt down last night. Nusic Sounds & PIAS are champions for independent artists and music, I'm proud to be part of that. We will support them in any way possible through this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the people that have had their families, homes and businesses affected by this terrible situation."

Alex Kapranos of the band Franz Ferdinand, who are signed to Domino, tweeted: "Thoughts go out to all the labels who have lost their stock in Pias fire."

Kapranos also questioned where the prime minister was during the looting, asking: "Where the fuck are the Bullingdon boys?.... Would you only end your holidays if it were Fortnum & Mason being looted?"

Other musicians to express their views on the riots included poet and musician Scroobius Pip, who said: "This is Britain punching itself in the face. Repeatedly."

The London Riots: Attacked From Within

I am disgusted, appalled, heartbroken and furious about the destruction, devastation and demolition which has taken place on the streets of London over the last few days. Fortunately, the ‘London Riots’ have absolutely nothing to do with Casa de Campo, La Romana or the Dominican Republic, however as an English person and journalist living in the Dominican Republic, I feel compelled to share with you the sad story of what has happened and is still happening in the UK.

The sorry story of the ‘London Riots’ has been largely un-told in the Dominican press and so for those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about and what is going on in London, here it is: essentially wide-scale riots and looting have broken out across London as well as in various other cities across the UK, with ‘youths’ setting fire to cars, buses and local businesses, looting – breaking into shops and stealing whatever they can grab, as well as violence against the police – throwing of rocks, fireworks and other objects. This is the worst violence London and the UK has seen for decades.

Here is a brief summary of the terrible series of events over the last few days:
Thursday August the 4th: “Well known gangster shot dead by police sparks violence”
A man named Mark Duggan was shot dead by the London Metropolitan Police. Following his death, British newspapers named Duggan as a ‘well known gangster’ and that he was under surveillance by police officers for gun related violence. Investigations into the death of Mark Duggan, who he was and what actually happened are still being investigated.
London’s Burning!

Saturday August the 6th: “Riots erupt in Tottenham”
A group of 300 protestors gathered at the Tottenham police station (Tottenham is an area in London), protesting for ‘justice’ for Mark Duggan. Following this ‘peaceful’ protest, violence broke out, when 2 police cars, a bus and a shop were set on fire, petrol bombs were thrown, whilst dozens of shops were broken into and looted with rioters seen running away with trolleys full of stolen items.

Sunday and Monday August the 7th and 8th: “Rioting spreads as thugs over-run the city”
‘Copy-cat’ rioting broke out across more than 10 boroughs (areas) of London on Sunday and Monday evening with violence also taking place in Liverpool, Bristol, Birmingham, Nottingham and Leeds.

WHO?
So who exactly are these crazed lunatics, imbeciles and utter morons attacking our London streets? As sad as it is to admit, these ‘youths’ are (in general) British teenagers, who are destroying the businesses in their own neighborhoods – but why ransack your own street? As one 17 year old girl filmed for the BBC news put it “because they’re the rich people ain’t they”, meaning the people whose businesses have been destroyed – I would hardly label a family who run a local supermarket ‘rich’ – rather ‘hardworking’, ‘honest’ and ‘tax-paying’ seem more appropriate!

WHY?
This senseless violence and criminal activity was initially linked to the death of Mark Duggan, however the continued riots have more to do with greed, stupidity and disrespect than with any kind of ‘protest.’ Youths and yes they are mostly ‘young people’ have joined together in some kind of crazed ‘mob mentality’ with the aim of looting and stealing as much as they can, whilst also ‘showing the police we can do whatever we like.’
It is disgusting. It is appalling.

What now?
The British Prime Minister, David Cameron has now returned from his vacation (don’t ask) and tonight there will be 16,000 police on the streets of London – a move which will hopefully put an end to this unlawful and dangerous behavior…….it is now 3.30pm in London….in just a few hours we will know if the British Metropolitan Police succeed in quelling this ‘unrest.’ I hope so, I really do.

But like an old pro, when her top fell down, Katy simply covered herself up and carried on singing.

Campus Life Comes to Second Life

Aaron Delwiche, an assistant professor at Trinity University in San Antonio, often gathers students in his Games for the Web class in an unlikely classroom: the metaverse known as Second Life.

It's not unusual for teachers and students to use an online environment like a chat room to meet. But Delwiche and a few other college professors are taking advantage of Second Life's fully three-dimensional virtual world and are the first to teach classes in a world where the students can fly, change body types at will and build fantastical structures that can float in the sky.

Second Life's "online environment tends to be a little less stuffy than the real-world classroom," said Delwiche. "Suddenly (the students) got to adopt these ridiculous avatars and interact with each other in a completely different context. They had a lot more fun."

Delwiche and professors like the University of Texas at Austin's Anne Beamish have for months been working on developing classes inside Second Life with Robin Harper, senior vice president at Linden Lab, the metaverse's publisher. Now the company, in an attempt to attract more professors wanting to experiment with this ultra-unorthodox teaching method, has formalized an outreach program to universities called Campus: Second Life.

Harper admits that Linden Lab has an interest in bringing more students into Second Life because they tend to be the types of people who will stick around and become paying customers.

Second Life is one of a number of so-called massively multiplayer online games. Linden Lab charges a monthly fee of $10 for access to an open-ended virtual world with a developed economy, neighborhoods and communities, all manner of vehicles and the ability to create nearly anything imaginable.

But Harper said Second Life is also an ideal environment for students, and that for the most part, they've integrated well into the larger community.

"Their focus is experience," she said. "It's whatever their individual perspective is. They come into Second Life trying to explore their ideas as they relate to a digital experience."

In order to help teachers bring their classes to Second Life, Linden Lab donates accounts for each student, as well as an acre of land in the metaverse for the teacher and students to work and build on. Afterward, anyone wishing to stay a member can do so at half price.

To date, in addition to Delwiche and Beamish, professors from San Francisco State University, the Rochester Institute of Technology and Vassar College have used Second Life in their courses.

Delwiche said it's an opportunity to show his students a different side of the digital media they hope to be creating in the future.

"It's really difficult to understand new media or cyberculture or the ways the internet is transforming our culture without actively participating in it," he said. "The thing that's appealing about Second Life is that it's a shared virtual experience, and so it has that common element that the classroom brings."

To Beamish, who teaches urban planning, Second Life provides an alternate palette with which to engage her students.

"I use Second Life for students to explore ideas about public space and what makes a good public space," she said. "Being in Second Life all of a sudden puts them in this different environment, which is similar but different, and it forces them to explore how they think about these things.... When you're in Second Life, because it's similar, but the physics are different, people react differently. And it makes them think more deeply about how one designs public spaces."

Karo Parisyan returns at UFC 123 to fight Dennis Hallman

I have to admit, I didn't see this coming at all. According to Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com, troubled welterweight fighter, Karo Parisyan is back in the UFC and will face off against Dennis Hallman on November 20, in Auburn Hills, Michicgan. Karo Parisyan (19-5) was released from the UFC this November over a weigh-in day meltdown in Las Vegas, Nevada. Parisyan was supposed to fight Dustin Hazelett, but was forced off the card at the last minute, due to a squabble with the NSAC over a fine he owed for a suspension. Parisyan was suspended after his UFC 94 decision victory over Dong Hyun-Kim, after testing positive for using banned pain killers.

Parisyan's win was later overturned by the Nevada State Athletic commission and he was fined over $30,000. Parisyan was not forced to pay the fine at that moment and had reached a deal with the NSAC, where he could pay the penalty throughout the course of time. At this point your guess is as good as anyone's as to what exactly happened, what we do know is the deal with the NSAC fell apart. Parisyan walked out on the event and took himself off the card and was released the same day by the UFC. UFC president, Dana White posted on his Twitter that Parisyan had screwed the UFC fans for the last time and quickly removed him from the roster. Since then Parisyan has attempted to sign with StrikeForce, but that deal never worked out. Parisyan did manage to pick up a victory at Impact FC 1 over Ben Mortimer by rear naked choke in July and will now return with a second chance at fixing his career.

Dennis Hallman is also on his second tour with the UFC and is coming off of a win over Ben Saunders at UFC 117 by unanimous decision. Hallman has fought a who's who of MMA fighters throughout his 58 fight career. Hughes owes two wins over Matt Hughes and has faced off against Frank Trigg, Jens Pulver and several other notable veterans. UFC 123 "Rampage vs Machida" will take place on November 20, at the Palace in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Cody Linley Worst Date With Demi Lovato

Most of the worst dates are usually the most memorable and Cody Linley proves just that to Seventeen.

The 19-year-old Dancing with the Stars alum told the mag all about the worst date he had with pop star Demi Lovato. He shared, “It was really the most up and down night of my life. When I finally got Demi, we went out to eat and I was explaining to her, ‘Yeah, my car, I’m sorry, it broke down,’ and as I’m saying that, it starts making a crazy noise again! And I was like, ‘Oh, oh, oh no,’ and she’s like, ‘What’s happening?’ I was like, ‘Nothing, it’s all good.’ She’s like, ‘Are you sure?’ So I had to stop the car and get out. Demi was really sweet. She held the light for me and put in her car repair advice.”

Cody was grateful to his former girlfriend for helping and being patient with him. He said, “She’s kind of a technology geek in a way. I was trying to use my iPhone to see the engine, and she took my phone away, went to settings, and made the light brighter so I could see better.

Volkswagen XL1 Hybrid Coupe Study

The highlight of Volkswagen's presentation at this week's Qatar motor show is the new XL1, a futuristic looking diesel-electric plug-in hybrid study for an everyday-use coupe vehicle with a combined fuel economy of just 0.9 liters per 100 kilometers or an amazing 261 mpg US.

The extremely low fuel consumption is achieved through the use of a lightweight construction, carefully honed aerodynamics and of course, the hybrid powertrain that combines a 0.8-liter twin-cylinder diesel producing 48-horses with a 27HP electric motor. If you follow the jump, you can check out live photos as well as on the road videos of the XL1.

Anne Hathaway Talks Hosting Comments

Anne Hatheway has admitted she had a talk with her 2011 co host James Franco after he discussed her enthusiastic hosting performance on the Late Show with David Letterman in less than flattering terms. In late March, James hit Letterman’s couch where he responded to criticism over his own casual stage demeanor at the Oscars, telling the late night host the Tasmanian Devil would look stoned standing next to Anne.
Anne let james know that whirling dervish is a more flattering comparison that the Tasmanian Devil, when she was asked by sources about his remarks.

She told sources she called him and emailed a bit in the grand scheme of things, she got to have a once in a lifetime opportunity. In addition, she told sources she got to meet a lot of great people, wore beautiful clothes, and she got to put on a show. She doesn’t see the downside. Anyone who disliked her personality probably didn’t like it before the Oscars.

Also, beyond talk of the Oscars, Anne opened up about her boyfriend, fellow actor Adam Shulman, telling the sources things with the couple are in a good place. She loves to get caught up in romance.
 2011 Anne Hathaway Photos
She did tell sources that there is something very addictive about people pleasing. It is a thought pattern and a habit that feels really good until it becomes desperate. It is one of the reasons that her relationship has ended. She wasn’t able to grow or foster anything. She told women to stand up for themselves and go after what they want.

If you have comments about this post we would be glad to hear from you. You can post your feedback and opinions here or in our female celebrities forum also found on this web site.

Johnny simmons And Megan Fox

Come September 18, Johnny Simmons will be envied by pretty much every boy in the world. Why? 'Cause in his new movie Jennifer's Body, he gets to kiss not only Amanda Seyfried, but Megan Fox too! And to think we last saw him starring opposite 70 bowwows in family film Hotel for Dogs! We chatted with Johnny about those infamous smooches, plus his connection to rockers Test Your Reflex and more.

The movie premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. What was that like?
It's incredible. We went to Midnight Madness last night where the film starts at midnight and they have all these people who are there to see like Megan and Amanda and Adam. People are, like, screaming. It was crazy! It was nuts.

2011 London riots incident

London’s emergency services were on full-scale alert on Monday night as rioting, fires and pitched battles with police erupted around the city from late afternoon.

The Metropolitan police poured hundreds of extra officers on to the streets as trouble flared in the north, south and east of the capital.

In Hackney, east London, masked and hooded youths smashed up shops and threw missiles, planks of wood and wheelie bins at riot police. Several abandoned vehicles were set alight. There were also violent scenes in Lewisham, south-east London, where petrol bombs were reportedly thrown at officers, and shops looted. A bus was torched in nearby Peckham as police struggled to respond to the spread of sporadic violent incidents.

Witnesses said a 100-strong mob cheered as a shop in the centre of Peckham was torched and one masked thug shouted: “The West End’s going down next.” A baker’s next door was also alight. One onlooker said: “The mob were just standing there cheering and laughing. Others were just watching on from their homes open-mouthed in horror.”

The unrest had spread beyond London with West Midlands police confirming outbreaks of disorder in Birmingham city centre. Shops including a branch of Louis Vuitton had windows smashed and were looted. Extra officers were being sent into the streets of Britain’s second city.

As the home secretary, Theresa May, broke off her holiday to return to London, the number of arrests from three consecutive nights of violence rose to 215, with 27 people charged. It was also announced that London mayor Boris Johnson would be returning early from his holiday. However, the prime minister remained on holiday in Tuscany.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stephen Kavanagh said one-third more officers were available on Monday nightthan on Sunday, when shops were ransacked and torched in Brixton, south London, and trouble reported in Enfield, Edmonton, Walthamstow and Islington.

Kavanagh vowed to deliver “speedy justice” for Londoners, condemning the waves of looting as “disgusting behaviour, ripping apart people’s livelihoods and businesses”.

Officers from Thames Valley, Essex, Kent, Surrey and City of London were drafted in to support the Met. But apparent “copycat” riots continued to spread in the wake of Tottenham’s riots on Saturday precipitated by the fatal shooting by police of Mark Duggan, 29, a father-of-four last Thursday.

In a bid to contain them, Scotland Yard introduced special powers in four areas – Lambeth, Haringey, Enfield and Waltham Forest, allowing stop and search without reasonable suspicion. The section 60 powers were invoked at midnight on Sunday. One incident of stop and search in Hackney was reportedly the catalyst for violence which erupted in Mare Street shortly after 4pm, and saw local hooded youths battle police.

The Guardian understands senior officers are prepared to add more areas to the list. The special powers have been perceived as targeting certain ethnic groups, thus fuelling tensions.

Meanwhile, the maker of the BlackBerry smartphones, Research in Motion, said it would co-operate with a police investigation into claims its popular BlackBerry Messenger service played a key role in organising the London riots.

Acting Metropolitan police commissioner Tim Godwin, said: “We need to separate grievance and criminality.” The situation was deemed so serious, he said, that he had taken several phone calls from David Cameron.

Croydon, Barnet, Streatham, Clapham and Islington were among a number of areas of London where shops were being advised to close early amid fears of violence.

After meeting Godwin, May said: “Those responsible for this violence and looting will be made to face the consequences of their actions. So far there have been at least 215 arrests and 27 people have been charged. But as the police take statements from witnesses, as they look at CCTV evidence, more arrests will be made.”

Brixton bore the brunt of Sunday’s violence. The Lambeth council leader, Steve Reed, said: “We are asking the mayor’s office for additional police for tonight and the next few nights.” Condemning the “copycat activity”, he said: “Somebody described it as gangs of kids doing Supermarket Sweep. It was Curry’s where they were after plasma screen TVs, and H&M and Foot Locker where it was clothes and trainers. It wasn’t about social issues, it was an opportunity to go on the rob.”

Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, visiting Tottenham, said the violence would leave “big scars” on the community. Surveying the wreckage after the torching of businesses and homes in Tottenham High Road, he spoke to Steve Moore, who lost his jewellery shop in Saturday’s violence. “I’m devastated, it’s completely gone. My shop just doesn’t exist anymore,” Moore told him.

Referring to the “copycat” violence across London, Clegg said: “Let’s be clear, the violence we saw last night had absolutely nothing to do with the death of Mr Duggan. It was needless, opportunist theft and violence – nothing more, nothing less.”

Boris Johnson released a statement describing the scenes of violence and destruction as “utterly appalling”.

“I understand the need for urgent answers into the shooting incident that resulted in the death of a young man and I’ve sought reassurances that the IPCC are doing exactly that,” he said. “But, let’s be clear – these acts of sheer criminality across London are nothing to do with this incident and must stop now.”

Three police officers were taking to hospital after a car was deliberately driven at them in Chingford Mount, Waltham Forest, where a shop was looted on Sunday.

An inquest into Duggan’s death was due to open on Tuesday though there seemed to be conflict between Scotland Yard and the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) over complaints by his family over “lack of contact” following his shooting. On behalf of Scotland Yard, Kavanagh said: “I want to apologise to the Duggan family because I think both the IPCC and the Metropolitan police could have managed that family’s needs more effectively”.

Rachel Cerfontyne, who is in charge of the investigation, said: “Following my meeting with the family yesterday I am very clear that their concerns were not about lack of contact or support from the IPCC. Their concerns were about lack of contact from the police in delivering news of his death to Mark’s parents.
